I first met Laura Jackson at my local writers group where we
became friends. I’ve since learned a lot about Laura through her Facebook page.
I know she’s a school librarian and she’s also a huge supporter of our local
sports teams. She really loves the Houston Rockets and I’ve seen a few pictures
of her at Houston Astros games. Laura also loves her family and spends a lot of
time with her nieces and nephews. But above everything else, she loves our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Worth The Wait is Laura’s first book in the Waltham Academy
series, released in February of 2014 through Hope Springs Books. The book is
geared toward young adults and deals with high school relationships, girl
problems and a parent’s illness.
The main character was a stretch for me to understand at
first. Ellie Lansing is the kind of girl who is always good to a fault. I
suppose it was so foreign to me because the last thing I wanted anyone to think
of me in school was a goody goody. Ellie worships her good looking, jock
boyfriend, Dylan and would do almost anything to keep him happy. The key word
here is almost.
After Ellie returns from her summer vacation she finds out
that Dylan has been unfaithful. She is dealt another blow when her mother is
diagnosed with cancer. This is the point where Ellie realizes that the future
her mom and her boyfriend’s mom had planned out for them isn’t going to happen.
Through all of Ellie’s trials she realizes she's free to
decide what's best for her life and what God would have her do with it. And
it’s during this dark period that she sees someone even better than Dylan who’s
always been there for her.
I enjoyed this book and could really relate to the feelings
Laura portrayed through Ellie. I would definitely recommend Worth The Wait to
any teen girl, who's either actively seeking the path God wants for her or who
need’s to see how God works in our lives.
