Jump On The Bandwagon!

The Houston Texans football team is having a banner year. A twelve and four season lead to their second playoff berth and division title in the team’s history. And as of January 5, 2013 the Texans have won their first playoff game, beating the Cincinnati Bengals.

Houston Texans fans have come out of the woodwork. Red and blue Texans t-shirts seem to be the go to attire of everyone in the city. The Toro head logo dons everything from rear windshields to can coozies to backpacks. If you weren’t a fan before, you probably are now…everyone is jumping on the Texans bandwagon.

Bandwagon: A popular party, faction, or cause that attracts growing support – often used in such phrases as jump on the bandwagon. A current or fashionable trend.

This bandwagon effect reminds me of how some Christians act. I’m reminded of the week before 911. Church went on as usual. But the very next Sunday it was hard to find a seat. The thought of possibly dying brought out fair weather Christians in droves. Everyone wanted to get on the Christian bandwagon.

Will the Texans win this weekend against the Patriots? Time will tell. What will be the next world-changing event that will drive people to churches? I can’t say that I really want to know.

One thing I do know, however, is that I’m going to keep on supporting my Texans, win or lose.  And I’m going to keep going to church, serving my Lord, praising my Savior…no bandwagon needed.

I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. Psalm 34:1
