The Bible then goes on to say in 1 Kings 11:4, “For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.”
It’s hard to believe that Solomon, the wisest man who would ever live would fall into adulterous behavior against God.
But aren’t we all a little like Solomon? Doesn’t God give us the desires of our heart? Matthew 21:22 says, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
As for Solomon, the Bible goes on to say that because of his sins, God raised up adversaries against Israel to afflict them all the rest of the days of his life. So what is the moral here…don’t take for yourself 700 wives and 300 concubines? I think that goes without saying, but I think the main thing is to keep God number one in your life. False gods/idols doesn’t just mean Baal, Ashtoreth or Milcom, it can be something as innocent as our own precious children. Anything that takes first place over God is an idol.
So remember to keep God first in your heart and life, obey His
statutes, and have no other gods before Him. And if we believe and pray in
earnest God will give us the desires of our heart.
